Baby Shower Dos and Don'ts
Baby Shower Dos and Don'ts
- DO plan ahead. Send your shower invitations at least 3 weeks before the shower date.
- DO get organized before the shower so the party will run smoothly. This way, you'll actually have time to enjoy the shower.
- DO consider including men.
- DO have fun with decorations. Consider using decorations or centerpieces that incorporate baby-related items, which can be given to the mom-to-be after the party.
- DO include a bunch of balloons outside your door to greet guests.
- DO use your best linens and silver if you are planning a formal shower.
- DO present foods attractively. Includes ganishes.
- DO know your guests' dietary restrictions when planning the menu, especially those of the mom-to-be. If you plan to server alcoholic beverages make sure to label them clearly.
- DO serve foods that are easy to eat.
- DON'T expect guests to balance a sit down meal on their laps.
- DO seat one or two detail-minded guests next to the mom-to-be to help with gift wrapping and recording gifts.
- DON'T give all newborn or three-month size clothing. The baby will soon wear larger sizes.
- DO remember both expectant parents when buying gifts. Personal gifts can give them a real lift during these stressful times.
- DO consider using the nursery colors in your decorations.
- DO keep the shower short and sweet (two to three hours).
- Do plan activities that guests will enjoy.
- DON'T play games that are embarassing or awkward.
- Do select useful prizes for guests.
- Finally, DO have a good time!
